
Pioneers Fall Short Against Stony Brook

Sophia Velleco and Rosemery Nieto each tallied two wins
MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team hosted Stony Brook Saturday afternoon, falling in a closely-contested dual meet, 159-141.
The Pioneers took to the pool for the one meter board, 13 individual events, and a pair of relays.
First-year Sophia Velleco placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:49.74. Velleco also paced the Pios in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.56.
Junior Rosemery Nieto led the Pioneers to a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.15. Nieto also tallied a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.37.
Junior Melanie Sanchez delivered the fastest time for the Pioneers in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.86 securing the win.
First-year Emma Haas placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.54.
In the one meter five dive voluntary, senior Olivia McNicholas came out on top with a score of 184. Natalie Carbone finished second with a score of 149.20 and Lola Barrett was third with a 148.50. McNicholas came in second in one meter six dive voluntary scoring 239.45.
