Zovko Becomes Five-Time NEC Rookie of the Week

The first year setter has won the award five out of the first six weeks of the season

SOMERSET, N.J. – For the fifth time in six weeks this season, Sacred Heart University women's volleyball first year setter Gaby Zovko was named the Northeast Conference/Molten Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The Pioneers went 2-1 this week, improving to a perfect 4-0 in the NEC in the process. SHU started the week against challenging non-conference foe UAlbany on Wednesday at the Pitt Center. Sacred Heart then bested league foes Stonehill in three sets and Merrimack in four, both matches coming on the road.
Zovko continued to make an impact all over the court for the Pioneers, as she led the team in assists (7.30), blocks (0.90) and aces per set (0.80). She also contributed 1.70 digs and 1.30 kills per set.
Zovko started the week with 20 assists, four kills and two aces in three sets against the Great Danes. The Bedford, Mass., native then racked up 18 assists, eight digs, four blocks, four kills and two aces in SHU's sweep of the Skyhawks. She capped her three-match stretch with 35 assists, seven digs, five kills, four aces and four blocks in a stellar four-set performance against the Warriors.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 7, to play NEC foe Central Connecticut State University at 5 p.m. at the Pitt Center.
