
Pioneers Pick Up Three Wins Against Rider and Siena

Sophie Velleco, Rosemery Nieto and Olivia McNicholas tallied a win for SHU
MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's swim team hosted Rider and Siena in a tri-meet this afternoon at McCann Natatorium. The Pioneers tied with Siena, 150-150, while falling to Rider, 171-121. Sophia Velleco, Rosemery Nieto, and Olivia McNicholas each picked up a win in the home tri-meet.
The Pioneers took to the pool for the one-meter board, 13 individual events, and a pair of relays.
First-year Sophia Velleco placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time 1:56.07.
Junior Rosemery Nieto led the Pioneers to a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:07.42. Nieto finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.12.
In the one-meter-five dive voluntary, senior Olivia McNicholas came out on top with a score of 170.62, while senior Natalie Carbone finished third with a score of 148.88.
McNicholas also came in second in the one-meter-six dive voluntary, scoring 239.45.
