Zovko Earns 10th NEC Rookie of the Week Nod

The first year setter won the award 10 of the 12 weeks this season

SOMERSET, N.J. – For the 10th time this season, Sacred Heart University women's volleyball first year setter Gaby Zovko was named the Northeast Conference (NEC)/Molten Rookie of the Week after leading the Pios to the top seed in the NEC Tournament with two wins last weekend.
The Pioneers swept both Stonehill and Merrimack to close out the 2023 regular season. With the two wins, SHU clinched a share of its second straight NEC regular season championship and earned hosting responsibilities in the league's championship tournament.
Zovko tallied 6.17 assists, 2.33 kills, 1.33 digs, 0.67 aces and 0.67 blocks per set over the two Sacred Heart sweeps. She started the week with 18 assists, six kills and three digs versus Stonehill on Friday. The Bedford, Mass., native then racked up 19 assists, eight kills, five digs, four aces and three blocks against Merrimack Saturday. Zovko has won this award 10 out of the 12 weeks this season.
SHU's opening match of the NEC Tournament will be against LIU in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.
