NEC RELEASE
SOMERSET, N.J. – After earning a share of the Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season championship and hosting responsibilities in the league tournament as the No. 1 seed, the Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team was well represented in the NEC All-Conference Awards.
First year setter Gaby Zovko led the way for SHU by winning both Setter and Rookie of the Year awards, a feat that was last accomplished by Pioneer great Sarah Ciszek, who did so in 2018. Dominique Felix was the lone Pio to make the All-NEC First Team, while Zovko, Camryn Luginbuhl and Jasmine Rogers made the Second Team.
Sacred Heart is preparing for the NEC Tournament after finishing the season with a 12-14 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the conference to earn at least a share of its second straight NEC regular season championship.
Zovko is no stranger to recognition from the conference, as she is a 10-time Rookie of the Week honoree and has won a Defensive Player of the Week nod. The Bedford, Mass., native leads SHU and is fourth in the conference with 7.04 assists per set. She is also seventh in the country in aces per set (0.59) and 11th in total aces (53). Zovko has also averaged 2.48 digs, 1.48 kills and 0.70 blocks per set as a do-it-all setter.
Felix collected her first All-NEC First Team honor in 2023 after being named Rookie of the Year and a Second Teamer in 2020-21. The outside hitter out of Pittsburgh, Pa., has started all 26 matches this season and is second on the team with 2.62 kills and third with 2.14 digs per set. Her 2.62 kills per set ranks seventh in the conference at the end of the regular season.
Luginbuhl earns her second straight Second Team nod after another season as one of the most lethal hitters in the NEC. The Tolland, Conn., native paces the Pioneers and ranks fourth in the NEC with 2.96 kills per set while hitting .176. Luginbuhl appeared in 25 of 26 matches this season with 17 starts and averaged 1.41 digs and 0.16 aces per set.
Rogers started all 26 matches this season as a libero, with today's announcement marking her first career All-NEC nod. The graduate student from Ridgewood, N.J., is second in the conference in both digs per set (4.04) and total digs (364). Rogers also collected a Defensive Player of the Week nod from the NEC on Sept. 12 following an impressive showing at the Yale Invitational.
The top-seeded Pioneers will kick off the NEC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 17, with a 7 p.m. tilt against fourth-seeded LIU at the Pitt Center.
