Box Score SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. — Sydney Antonakis' second period tally was the difference as the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team earned its first road win of the season, dispatching Saint Michael's on Friday night, 1-0.

In a contested rematch of SHU's season opening tilt, the Pioneers and the Purple Knights battled to a scoreless draw in the first 20 minutes with both teams having their individual chances go begging. The Pioneers had the best chance of the opening frame, but could not direct a shot on frame, ending the period with five shots. On the other end, SHU's Jillian Petruno stopped all nine Saint Michael's shots through the first 20 minutes of action.

The Pios came out of the intermission the stronger of the two teams as the game broke open for the visiting side. Just moments after Sophie Lupone had her two-on-one opportunity saved by Lavender, the Pioneers broke the deadlock as Sydney Antonakis scored her sixth goal of the season.

With a rush chance up the middle of the ice, Kate Helgeson sent a shot on net that stopped right in the low slot for Sydney Antonakis who fired a wrist shot past an outstretched Lavender and into the back of the net to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead just under four minutes into the second period.

The Pioneers continued to threaten offensively throughout the remainder of the period, including a shorthanded chance for Lupone halfway through the frame but could not solve Lavender who let in the lone goal of the period as the Pios led 1-0 after 40 minutes of action.

In a contested third period, both sides came out looking to set the tone but could not find the net after a plethora of chances as the Pioneers kept the lead, they accumulated in the second period with just under nine minutes to play in the final period.

Late in the third, the Pios had an chance to double the lead as a late developing two-on-one arrived for Anastasia Sloan, but her shot down low could not find its way past Lavender. Moments later, the Purple Knights had their best opportunity of the period saved as Petruno closed to door on the home side with just over two minutes to go en route to a 1-0 shutout win over the Purple Knights.
