Pioneers Finish Fourth at Sunshine State Classic

Two were named to all-tournament team
ORLANDO, Fla.—The Sacred Heart University women's bowling had a strong showing in Florida, finishing fourth overall at the Sunshine State Classic. Hannah Manetta and Paige Donovan were placed on the all-tournament team as they had top-five scores through six games.
On the opening day of competition, the Pioneers went 3-2 in the baker format with wins over St. Francis Brooklyn, Arkansas State, and Emmanuel College (Ga.). The losses were from LIU and Stephen F. Austin, but Sacred Heart finished the day in third place.
The Pioneers were unstoppable on the second day of the classic as they went undefeated in four games. SHU had victories over Monmouth, Prairie View A&M University, Florida A&M University, and the University of Alabama – Birmingham, all in the traditional format.
The Pioneers were in third place to end day two at 7-2 and secured the third spot in the brackets for Sunday.
On Sunday, the teams would compete in one traditional game before going into two best 4-of-7 baker matches.
To open the final day, SHU took on Duquesne in a traditional game, falling 1106-1060. In the two baker matches, the Pioneers dropped its first match to Duquesne before moving on and falling to Arkansas State.
Sacred Heart secured the fourth spot in the classic as they finished the weekend 7-5. The Pioneers knocked down a total of 12,708 pins over the weekend and had a 198.6 average.
Manetta was second overall in the individual standings as she knocked down 1,352 total pins and had a 225.33 average.
Donovan was right behind as she was third overall in the individual standings. She had a 218.83 average and took down 1,313 pins.
First-year Megan Prettyman and sophomore Rachel Glowniak were also in the top 10 individually for Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers are back in action next weekend, February 18-19th, in the Northeast Conference Meet #3 in New Haven, Conn.
