STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team sits in third place after day one of the 2023 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Pioneers tallied three podium finishers and have 22.5 points after the first day's action. Central Connecticut State University leads the field with 38 points, while SHU trails LIU (23) by half a point for second.
Sacred Heart tallied two of its three podium finishers in the high jump, as first years
Magdalena Brogioli and
Ava Coscia combined to finish second and third, respectively. Brogioli earned eight points after clearing 1.64m, edging Coscia (six points) by getting over 1.61m in her first attempt. Both Brogioli and Coscia set new season highs by clearing 1.61m.
Kaylee Stenderowicz also won some new hardware for the Pios, taking third in the long jump. The senior tallied a mark of 5.38m to earn SHU six points.
Erin Lavelle and
Sarah Lamoreaux rounded out the Pioneers' point-getters today. Lavelle (5.19m) finished seventh in the long jump for two points, while Lamoreaux (1.55m) collected .5 a point by taking eighth in the high jump. Lavelle set a new personal record in the long jump, while Lamoreaux tied her PR in the high jump.
In addition to its point-getters, Sacred Heart also tallied four additional top-15 finishers.
Brianna Diaz (10.95m) placed 12th, and
Madeline Rivard (9.29m) finished 13th in the weight throw, while
Kelly Parker (11:08.33) took 14th in the 3,000 meters and
Tara Brody (4.95m) was 14th in the long jump.
The Pioneers are back for day two of the NECs tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
