STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – After recording two solid days at the 2023 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, Sacred Heart University women's track and field first year
Magdalena Brogioli was named the league's Rookie of the Meet.
As a team, the Pioneers finished fourth with 74.50 points. SHU was 15.5 points shy of tying third-place LIU with 90 points, while Central Connecticut State University was the run-away winner with 149 points.
A day after finishing second in the high jump, Brogioli took fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.10. The Mattapoisett, Mass., native's second top-five finish of the meet earned the Pioneers five points.
Joining Brogioli with a second consecutive strong day was
Kaylee Stenderowicz, who took second in the triple jump. A day removed from finishing third in the long jump, the senior from Fredon, N.J., climbed one spot on the podium by recording a triple jump of 11.86m to earn SHU eight points.
The Pioneers gained most of its points today in the pole vault, as the team had four participants finish in the top six.
Jenna Engels paced the group in second place behind a personal-record mark of 3.56m.
Sydney Abitanto also logged a PR by clearing 3.51m to take third.
Jennifer Pasram (3.46m) and
Hope Handlin (3.31m) also earned points for Sacred Heart by finishing fourth and sixth, respectively.
The pole vault was not the only event that the Pios tallied multiple point-getters. The duo of
Maya Mocarski (7.96) and
Jada Alston (8.00) went sixth and seventh in the 60 meters, while
Nicole Szilagyi (9.20) and
Madeline Archangelo (9.49) matched those standings in the 60m hurdles. Archangelo tallied a new PR of 9.26 in the 60m hurdles during the prelims.
Sacred Heart also ended the day with two strong relay showings, finishing the 4000m distance medley relay in fourth and the 4x400m relay in sixth.

Madison Breckner,
Megan Schneider, and
Jessica Pigott made up the distance medley team, while
Ava Srinivasan,
Tori Chorzepa, Brogioli, and Archangelo raced the 4x400m.
Rounding out the Pioneers' point-getters were
Jessica Pigott,
Emily Raymond, and
Tara Brody, who all tallied eighth-place showings to secure the team a point. Pigott raced the mile in 5:18.00, Raymond ran the 500 meters in 1:20.91, and Brody recorded a mark of 11.29m in the triple jump. Pigott and Brody both posted new PRs in their respective events.
The Pios hit the track again on Sunday, Feb. 26, to participate in the Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier, hosted by Boston University.
