Pios Rank Fifth after Day One of NECs

Sacred Heart finished fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay on Tuesday night
GENEVA, Ohio – The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2023 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in fifth place after finishing fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay finals on Tuesday evening at the Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio.
The Pioneers posted a time of 7:39.55 in the event, just 2.30 seconds off the pace set by Howard University in fourth. Ella Krikorian, Kelly Bartnett, Casey Barrett, and Grace Bergstrom made up the SHU A relay team on Tuesday evening. The Pios bettered their time from last season's NECs by 2.25 in 2023.
Sacred Heart's B relay team finished 10th with a time of 7:57.94. Melanie Sanchez, Olivia Ronaghan, Meghan Hammarlund, and Emma Chambers comprised the B relay team for the Pioneers.
After the first day of action, Wagner College led all teams by winning 40 points in the opening event.
The Pioneers return for day two of the NECs tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for the 500-yard freestyle prelims.
