
McNicholas Wins 3M Board on Day Two of NECs

The Pioneers rank fifth in the team standings after day two
GENEVA, Ohio – Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving junior Olivia McNicholas highlighted the Pios' day two at the 2023 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, winning the three-meter dive on Wednesday evening.
As a team, SHU is in fifth place after the first two days with 139.5 points. The Pioneers sit 8.5 points shy of LIU in fourth. Central Connecticut State University leads the event after Wednesday with 223.5 points.
PRELIMS
FINALS
The Pios hit the pool again tomorrow at 10 a.m. for day three of the NEC Championships. Day three is set to begin with the 400 IM prelims.

PRELIMS
- The Pios got off to a great start in the three-meter diving prelims, securing four spots in the championship final.
- McNicholas led the group with a score of 236.95, while Natalie Carbone (227.55), Lola Barrett (222.45), and Regan Santoro (221.85) also punched tickets to the championship final.
- Sara Anastasi and Christianna Tzepos both earned spots in the consolation final.
- On the swimming side, Kelly Bartnett made the finals of the 50 free with a time of 24.06 to place eighth in the prelim.
- The Pioneers also sent two swimmers to the consolation finals.
- Charlotte Kaduson (5:10.45) made the consolation final of the 500 freestyle, while Casey Barrett (2:09.35) made it in the 200 IM.
- To go along with the Pios that made championship and consolation finals, four SHU swimmers will compete in the C finals.
- Olivia Ronaghan made the C finals in the 500 freestyle, while Emma Chambers, Rosemery Nieto, and Daniella Palamaro made the 200 IM.
FINALS
- McNicholas highlighted a SHU-dominated three-meter diving event, as she was one of four Pios in the championship finals.
- McNicholas scored 254.90 points to win the gold, 13.65 points better than her next closest competitor. Her score of 254.90 is the second-best three-meter mark of her career, trailing just her score from this season's ECAC Championship.
- L. Barrett was the next Pio on the leaderboard with a score of 226.85, just ahead of Carbone (219.30) in sixth and Santoro (208.25) in eighth.
- In her championship final, Bartnett placed seventh in 50 freestyle, shaving .19 seconds off her prelim time in the final.
- Anastasi finished the three-meter dive consolation final in ninth with a score of 194.65, while Christianna Tzepos took 13th with a score of 188.25.
- The Pioneers also saw two swimmers crack the program's all-time top five this evening.
- Kaduson claimed the program's fourth spot in the 500 freestyle consolation final, finishing in 13th with a mark of 5:07.87.
- Nieto's time of 2:09.39 in the 200 IM C final was good for the fourth spot on the program all-time top five and is a new personal record for the sophomore.
- C. Barrett placed in a tie for 13th place in the 200 IM consolation final with a time of 2:09.27, .08 seconds better than her mark in the prelims.
- Rounding out the Pios' finalist today was Palamaro in 19th of the C final in the 200 IM, Ronaghan in 21st in the C final of the 500 freestyle, and Chambers in 23rd in the C final of the 200 IM.
