Senior placed in a tie for fourth in the 200 free championship final
GENEVA, Ohio – Senior Kelly Bartnett highlighted the Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team's day three at the 2023 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships by breaking the school record in the 200 freestyle. Her school-record 200 freestyle time was good for a tie for fourth place in Thursday night's championship final.
Through three days of action, the Pios remain in fifth place with 192 points, 19 points behind LIU in fourth. Central Connecticut State University maintained its spot at the top of the leaderboard with 372 points.

Day four of the NEC Championships is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, with the 200 butterfly prelims.

PRELIMS
- The Pios' success in the prelims was highlighted by Bartnett setting a new school record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.19.
- The senior's time was the fourth quickest in the prelims, as she punched a ticket to the championship final in the evening.
- SHU also tallied three scoring swimmers in the 400 IM that made it to the consolation final.
- Emma Chambers (4:37.07) placed 10th, Melanie Sanchez (4:38.73) 12th, and Daniella Palamaro (4:40.42) 15th to make the consolation final tonight.
- The Pioneers also sent two to the C final in the 400 IM and three to the C final in the 100 butterfly.
- Olivia Velleco (4:44.19) and Olivia Ronaghan (4:45.60) made the C final in the 400 IM, while Ashley Ayala (59.20), Christina Caminiti (59.74), and Emma McCall (59.77) made it in the 100 fly.
FINALS
- Bartnett was even better in the 200 free championship final, as she broke her eight-hour-old school record with a time of 1:50.90.
- With her new school record, Bartnett placed in a tie for fourth.
- The Pioneers also did well in the consolation final of the 400 IM, as Chambers, Sanchez, and Palamaro all scored for SHU.
- Chambers (4:36.84) was the highest SHU finisher in 11th, just edging Sanchez (4:38.41) in 12th and Palamaro (4:38.61) in 14th.
- Ronaghan (4:40.95) was outstanding in the C final of the 400 IM, shaving almost five seconds off her prelim time to finish second in the final. Velleco (4:43.26) also swam a quicker finals time to place 20th overall.
- McCall finished second in the 100 butterfly C final, while Ayala and Caminiti clocked times of 59.47 and 59.65, respectively.
- Ella Krikorian competed in the C final of the 200 freestyle and placed 20th with a time of 1:56.00.
- The Pios ended their day with the 200 freestyle relay, as SHU's A team of Krikorian, Emma Davis, McCall, and Grace Bergstrom placed seventh with a time of 1:37.67.
