Barrett Takes Bronze on 1M Board on Day Four of NECs

The Pioneers also set a new school record in the 400 medley relay
GENEVA, Ohio – Lola Barrett led the Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team on day four of the 2023 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships by placing third in the one-meter dive. SHU also set a new program record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:52.48 to finish fifth.
The Pioneers are in fifth place in the standings after day four with 301 points, 80.5 points behind LIU in fourth. Central Connecticut State University continues to lead the event with 513 points.

PRELIMS
- Sacred Heart opened day four by placing two in the consolation final of the 200 butterfly.
- Emma Chambers led the Pioneer duo with a time of 2:09.41 to place 13th, edging teammate Melanie Sanchez in 14th with her time of 2:09.85.
- Ashley Ayala (2:14.99) will appear in the C final after finishing in 24th.
- Casey Barrett raced her way into the consolation final of the 100 backstroke, finishing in 58.79 to place 14th in the prelim.
- Meghan Hammarlund made the C final in the 100 backstroke by taking 24th in the prelim with a time of 1:00.13.
- Senior Jillian Pusateri (1:07.85) will appear in the C final of the 100 breaststroke after taking 22nd in the prelim.
FINALS
- The Pios excelled in the one-meter diving championship, tallying four divers in the championship final.
- Barrett led the way by finishing third with a score of 240.75.
- Barrett just edged her teammate Olivia McNicholas in fourth with her score of 240.70.
- Regan Santoro gave SHU three out of the top five finishers in the event by taking fifth with 224.30 points.
- The Pios' final top-eight placer was Natalie Carbone with 219.55.
- Both Sara Anastasi (206.20) and Christianna Tzepos (194.95) appeared in the consolation final, finishing 11th and 14th, respectively.
- On the swimming side, the 400 medley relay team of Barrett, Rosemery Nieto, Melanie Sanchez, and Kelly Bartnett set a new school with a time of 3:52.48 to finish fifth.
- Chambers (2:08.18) and Sanchez (2:08.81) finished back-to-back in the 200 butterfly consolation final in 11th and 12th place.
- Devon Corvaia made the C final in the 200 butterfly, placing 20th with a time of 2:12.75.
- Barrett added another consolation final in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 12th with a time of 58.36.
- Hammarlund (59.71) placed 20th in the C final of the 100 backstroke.
- Pusateri (1:08.27) was SHU's final C finalist, placing 22nd in the 100 breaststroke.
