LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team earned a win in the 4x400m relay race to highlight its day at the Rider University Invite on Saturday in Lawrenceville, N.J.
The 4x400m relay team of
Rafael Mahario,
Jack Sarkisian,
Jonathan Mahon, and
Joseph Morrone earned the Pioneers' lone win today by clocking a time of 3:19.74.
The SHU trio of Morrone, Mahario, and Mahon all placed in the top six of the 400 meters. Morrone (48.40) and Mahario (48.74) both set new personal records to finish third and fifth, respectively. Mahon clocked a time of 49.50 to finish sixth.
Cameron Croce recorded a second- and fourth-place showing this afternoon. The graduate student finished runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.93m before finishing fourth in the discus (42.11m).
Daniel Blatman also finished in the top 10 of both events, placing sixth in the hammer throw (48.37m) and ninth in the discus (37.81m), the latter being a new PR.
Blake Stewart and
Owen Nassaney finished in the top seven of the long jump. Stewart recorded a new PR of 6.96m to finish third, while Nassaney took seventh with a mark of 6.80m. Stewart (12.93m) also set a new personal record in the triple jump to finish 10th.
The Pioneers claimed half of the top-six spots in the pole vault, as
Daniel DiGangi finished fourth, while
Benjamin Healy and
Douglas Suter tied for sixth. DiGangi cleared 3.95m, while Healy and Suter cleared 3.65m, a new PR for Healy. Suter set a new PR in the 400m hurdles to place fourth, three spots ahead of his teammate Healy in seventh with his PR of 59.84.
Albert DePierro IV (45.60m) paced a trio of Pios in the top nine of the javelin in fourth after tallying a new personal record.
Liam Tharin (43.38m) and Healy (41.97m) also set new PRs to place seventh and ninth, respectively.
Nazir Hibbert took eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.79m.
The Pioneers hit the track again on Sunday, Apr. 30, for the Yale Springtime Invitational.
