Kowalski Earns NEC Honor for Second Consecutive Week

The first year was named Co-Rookie of the Week after three outstanding pitching appearances
SOMERSET, N.J. – For the second straight week, Sacred Heart University softball standout Sam Kowalski has been recognized by the Northeast Conference as she was tabbed the NEC Co-Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Today's honor marks Kowalski's third NEC weekly award, as she was named Pitcher of the Week last Tuesday and Rookie of the Week on February 21. As a team, the Pios have garnered nine NEC weekly honors this season.
Kowalski made three stellar appearances on the week, posting a 1-1 record with a 0.88 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 16.0 innings.
Kowalski opened play by earning a win at Yale with 3.0 scoreless relief innings to go along with five strikeouts. The first year then posted one of her best games of the year, striking out a season-high 10 batters over 9.0 innings in an instant classic against Wagner on Friday. She capped the week off by throwing 4.0 innings of relief against the Seahawks, allowing just one hit while striking out five in a no-decision.
SHU returns to the field on Wednesday, April 26, for a 3 p.m. bout at Fairfield.
