NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team tallied two wins at the 2023 Yale Springtime Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Dewitt Cuyler Complex in New Haven, Conn.
First year
Josiah Hanna tallied one of SHU's wins on the afternoon, claiming the top prize in the 200 meters with a time of 23.13. The Linden, N.J., native also set a new personal record of 53.62 in the 400 meters to finish sixth.
Graduate student
Cameron Croce recorded Sacred Heart's other victory in the hammer throw. The Hope, R.I., native topped the field with a throw of 57.57m to earn his fifth win of the 2023 outdoor campaign.
Edward Kaufman notched the Pios' lone second-place finish, taking runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 38.48m. The senior (35.16m) also placed eighth in the discus.
Benjamin Healy and
Douglas Suter each finished in the top four of the 110m hurdles, as Healy (16.39) took third and Suter (17.07) fourth.
The Pioneers also went third and fourth in the pole vault.
Daniel DiGangi led the team in third with a mark of 4.05m, while Suter finished fourth by clearing 3.75m.
Nicolas Fernandez tallied SHU's final podium finish by taking third in the long jump with a mark of 5.72m.
Hanna led a three-Pioneer contingent in the 200 meters, as
Jakob Sargent placed fifth with a PR time of 23.64, and
Ryan Jaipaul (24.18) took seventh. Jaipaul (53.78) also finished seventh in the 400 meters.
Daniel Blatman and
Cole Decusati joined Croce in the top eight of the hammer throw. Blatman (47.95m) took sixth in the event, while Decusati (39.77m) set a new PR to finish eighth. Decusati also finished seventh in the discus.
Rounding out the Pioneers' top-10 finishers were
Jordan Leon,
James Moore, and
Nicholas Ruddock. Leon (4:10.50) took seventh in the 1,500 meters, Moore (2:03.39) set a new PR in the 800 meters to finish 10th, and Ruddock (12.97) placed 10th in the 100 meters.
Today served as the Pios' final tune-up before the 2023 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, at Duane Stadium in North Andover, Mass.
