SHU Wins Seven Times at New Captains Classic

Pepin, Szilagyi, Parker, Pasram, and Mokwuah all earned individual wins for the Pios

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team tallied seven victories over the two-day New Captains Classic, hosted by Christopher Newport on Friday and Saturday. 

Jennifer Pasram and Kylie Terkildsen finished first and second in the pole vault. Pasram cleared an event-winning 3.06m, while Terkildsen cleared 2.61m in her first attempt. 

Keegan Pepin won the 3,000 meters with a personal-record time of 11:11.95. Kathleen Delaney finished next in second with a time of 11:48.35. Tara Shipos rounded out the Pios in the top five of the 3,000m in fifth with a time of 12:16.73. 

Kelly Parker and Grace Miller finished first and second in the 3,000m steeplechase. Both Parker (12:22.44) and Miller (13:29.98) set PRs in the event.

Nicole Szilagyi, Brooke DeWeese, and Kimora Johnson took three of the top four spots in the 100m hurdles. Szilagyi won the race with a time of 15.46. DeWeese clocked a personal record of 16.34 to take second, while Johnson (16.43) claimed fourth. DeWeese also placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.56.

Magdalena Brogioli and Madeline Archangelo wrapped up the competition in the heptathlon this afternoon, finishing second and third, respectively. Brogioli scored a personal-record 4233 points and set new PRs in the shot put and 200. Archangelo (4229) also set a new PR in points and bested her career mark in the 200. 

Angela Kaiser, Alisha Stadnicki, and Emma Doran finished in the top five of the 1,500 meters. Kaiser (4:54.87) and Stadnicki (5:00.76) placed second and third, while Doran (5:11.83) set a new PR and finished fifth. 

Erin Lavelle (4.98m), Kaylee Stenderowicz (4.89m), Arianna Bartholomew (4.87m), and Tara Brody (4.86m) finished 4-7 in the long jump. Stenderowicz, Brody, and Lavelle also did well in the triple jump. Stenderowicz (10.81m) finished second, Brody (10.74m) took third, and Lavelle was fourth (10.66m) in the triple jump. 

Abbie Mokwuah finished the day with two top-three showings, winning the shot put and placing third in the discus. The graduate student posted a throw of 13.36m in the shot put and a mark of 34.20m in the discus. 

Ava Srinivasan (1:07.63) and Nicole Parise (1:11.64) led a four-Pio group in the 400m hurdles in third and fourth place, respectively. Both Srinivasan and Parise set new personal records. 

Jada Alston placed third in the 100m dash with a PR of 12.76. 

SHU also won both relay races at the meet. The team of Alexus Delgado, Leila Gary, Megan Wassick, and Alston took the top spot in the 4x100m with a time of 50.82. Leila Gary, Tori Chorzepa, Emily Raymond, and Srinivasan teamed up to win the 4x400m with a mark of 4:10.62. 

The SHU outdoor season will continue at the Merrimack College Alumni Classic on Saturday, Apr. 15.
