Wilhelm Earns Coach of the Year

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart Women's Rowing Program had its best showing ever at the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The Pioneers finished fourth overall, just a few points shy of third, and Lucas Wilhelm was named MAAC Coach of the Year.

SHU, which put put two boats on the medal podium for the first time, were only four points out of second place.

Sacred Heart's varsity eight finished fourth out of seven boats in the final by covering the 2,000 meters in 7:26.4. Jacksonville, Marist and Fairfield were the top three finishers.

Junior Cara McDonald (Natick, Mass.) earned first-team All-MAAC honors, while classmate Saige Harper (East Hampton, Mass.) and grad student Kristen Duffy (Kew Gardens, N.Y.) received second-team honors,

The Pios got a third-place finish from their second varsity eight, crossing the finish line in 7:36.1 behind Jacksonville and Fairfield.

The top four for SHU grabbed second place in its final by posting an 8:16.5, which came behind Jacksonville and ahead of Fairfield.

There was also a fifth-place finish for Wilhelm's group from the second varsity four. The Pioneers notched a time of 8:44.6
