
Four Pios Collect CSC Academic All-District Softball Honors

Carroll, Petrovich, Saad, and Vadas were recognized for their work athletically and academically
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – In recognition of their performances on the field and in the classroom, Sacred Heart University softball's Emily Carroll, Amy Petrovich, Grace Saad, and Liv Vadas earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2023 CSC Academic All-District® Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. To qualify for this honor, student-athletes had to meet certain academic and on-field competition minimums.
Carroll, a junior utility player, made the All-Northeast Conference First Team after a breakout campaign. She set new career highs in batting average (.354), slugging percentage (.537), hits (52), runs (26), RBI (23), doubles (8), and triples (2). The Ballston Lake, N.Y., native paced the Pioneers in batting average, hits, and triples, while being tied for second in doubles and home runs (5). In the classroom, Carroll maintained a 3.98 cumulative GPA while studying finance.
Petrovich, another All-NEC First Teamer for the Pios, concluded her graduate season in 2023. The East Hanover, N.J., native started 45 games and posted career highs in batting average (.336), slugging percentage (.507), on-base percentage (.419), runs (29), and triples (2). She also tallied her 200th career start in SHU's season finale against LIU on May 7. Petrovich earned a master's degree in digital marketing while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.94.
Saad earned today's honor after appearing in 30 games with 28 starts as a junior infielder this season. The product of Ventura, Calif., racked up 11 runs and six RBI on 18 hits, with two doubles and two homers. Defensively, she recorded 41 putouts and 30 assists on 78 chances at second base. Saad has a cumulative GPA of 3.69 and is majoring in exercise science.
SHU's final honoree was Vadas, who concluded her senior season in 2023. The local Fairfield, Conn., native has been a staple of the Pios' pitching staff over the last four years. She threw 76.0 innings this season with 36 strikeouts and a 4.05 ERA. Vadas collected wins over Detroit Mercy and NEC foes Merrimack and Stonehill and earned her first career save in 2023. She is an exercise science major with a double minor in chemistry and biology with a 3.60 cumulative GPA.
