Full NFCA Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The end-of-season awards keep rolling in for Sacred Heart University softball's Emily Carroll, Amy Petrovich, and Alyssa Gonzalez, as the trio of All-Northeast Conference First Teamers earned spots on National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Northeast Region Teams.
These awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second, and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. The All-Region selections now become eligible for the 2023 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
Carroll made the Second Team as a designated player or utility player that is not a pitcher. The Ballston Lake, N.Y., native is a true utility player for the Pios, splitting her defensive duties between the outfield and first base. Carroll broke out as a junior after setting new career highs in batting average (.354), slugging percentage (.537), hits (52), runs (26), RBI (23), doubles (8), and triples (2). She paced SHU in batting average, hits, and triples while being tied for second in doubles and home runs (5).
Petrovich, who made her fourth All-NEC Team nine days ago, earned her first career spot on an All-Region squad on the Third Team as an outfielder. The graduate student capped her outstanding collegiate career by starting 45 games this season with career highs in batting average (.336), slugging percentage (.507), on-base percentage (.419), runs (29), and triples (2). In addition, the East Hanover, N.J., native was tied for the team lead in triples and was second in batting average, runs, and home runs (5). In her final collegiate game against LIU on May 7, Petrovich made her 200th career start over 203 appearances.
Today's honor marks Gonzalez's second career All-Region nod, as she made the Second Team in 2021. The Beaumont, Calif., native was tabbed to the Third Team at DP or UT/non-pitcher after leading the NEC with a .636 slugging percentage, 34 RBI, and 13 home runs. She added a career-best 40 hits to go along with 20 runs scored and five doubles in 46 appearances to her impressive final-season stats. Gonzalez's last collegiate campaign was highlighted by hitting her 50th career home run on April 19 against Yale, becoming the first player in program history to reach that milestone.
