
Ten SHU Student-Athletes Named CSC Academic All-District

The Pios had SAs from seven different teams recognized

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its Academic All-District® At-Large Teams this afternoon, with 10 Sacred Heart University student-athletes recognized by the organization.
Micaela Deutsch (rowing), Grace Hand (women's fencing), Jenna Jacinto (women's fencing), Hannah Manetta (bowling), and Kelly Solak (women's ice hockey) represent the Pios' female recipients this afternoon, while Dante Fantauzzi (men's ice hockey), Marcus Lim (men's golf), Jeffrey Palma (men's fencing), Hunter Sansbury (men's ice hockey), and Braeden Tuck (men's ice hockey) were named to the men's at-large teams.
Deutsch is a three-year member of the rowing team. The Rochester, N.Y., native owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA as a psychology major.
Hand is graduating in three years with a sports communications & media degree. She finished her collegiate career at Sacred Heart with a 3.92 cumulative GPA. The Darien, Conn., native competed three seasons on the SHU fencing team, placing in a tie for 39th in the epee at the 2023 NCAA Regionals.
Joining her fencing teammate in Hand, Jacinto earned this honor by maintaining a 4.0 cumulative GPA as a neuroscience major. The sophomore from Dix Hills, N.Y., competed in the foil at the NCAA Regionals, placing 49th at the event.
Manetta ended her senior season by helping to guide the Pioneers to their second consecutive Northeast Conference women's bowling championship. In honor of her impressive play, the Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., native was named to the National Ten Pin Coaches Association Northeast Region honorable mention team and was tabbed All-NEC Second Team. Manetta owns a cumulative 3.88 GPA as an Interdisciplinary Studies major.
Solak ends her impressive collegiate career with another honor. The four-time All-NEWHA selection made the Second Team this season after recording six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. The Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., native ranked second on the team in assists, third in points, and fifth in goals as a defender. In the classroom, Solak held a 4.0 graduate GPA while studying public health.
Fantauzzi, the first of three men's ice hockey players recognized, concluded his junior season in 2022-23. The defender from North York, Ontario, set new career highs with two goals, three assists, and five points. Academically, he holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA while majoring in finance.
Lim, a junior from Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, just won his second NEC Player of the Year award after another stellar season. He tallied three wins and nine top 10s over the fall and spring, owning a 70.3 average over the season. Lim tied teammate Pablo Lacayo for the best SHU showing at the NEC Championships, placing in a tie for eighth as the Pios finished third. In the classroom, Lim studies healthcare administration and has a cumulative GPA of 3.73.
Palma competes in the epee for the men's fencing team, as he just completed his sophomore season in 2022-23. He concluded his second campaign by placing 36th at the NCAA Regionals in March. Outside of his fencing accolades, the Rockaway, N.J., native owns a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a psychology major.
Sansbury, a sophomore defender from Lomita, Calif., is coming off his best season to date, as he was named All-AHA Third Team. He finished the year by tallying 7-11-18, setting new career highs in goals and points. The second-year blueliner also paced the Pioneers with 58 blocked shots. Academically, Sansbury is majoring in marketing and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.69.
Our final honoree is Tuck, a senior forward for the men's ice hockey team. The Calgary, Alberta, native won the AHA Individual Sportsmanship Award this season and is a former AHA Rookie of the Year and two-time All-AHA honoree. He appeared in all 37 games for Sacred Heart this season, posting 5-15-20. Tuck is an accounting major that maintains a 3.81 cumulative GPA.
