Pios begin season on the road at Rhode Island (Nov. 7)
FULL 2023-24 SCHEDULE
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off claiming the 2023 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship and becoming the first team in NEC history to win an NCAA Tournament game, Sacred Heart University women's basketball head coach Jessica Mannetti debuted the team's schedule for 2023-24.
The Pioneers are slated for 30 contests this season, 12 of which will come at home at the Pitt Center. SHU will play a full 16-game NEC slate this season after the league added Le Moyne.
Sacred Heart kicks off the season with three straight road games, traveling to Rhode Island (Nov. 7), Morgan State (Nov. 11) and Monmouth (Nov. 15) in the first week of the year.
The Pios' home opener will come against Hofstra on Sunday, Nov. 19. SHU's tilt against the Pride will be its last before heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for a Thanksgiving tournament.
After returning to Connecticut, Sacred Heart has seven more non-conference games remaining on their schedule, beginning with a home bout against cross-town rival Fairfield (Nov. 29). The rest of SHU's non-league slate will also feature home games against NJIT (Dec. 6) and Mercy (Dec. 31). The highlight of the Pios' road bouts in that stretch will be against Big East foe Providence on Saturday, Dec. 16.
SHU's NEC schedule will begin after the New Year, as the Pios welcome Merrimack on Saturday, Jan. 6. Sacred Heart and FDU will play two rematches of last season's NEC Championship Game. The first will happen at the Pitt Center on Saturday, Jan. 27, and the second will be in Teaneck, N.J., on Thursday, Feb. 22. The Pioneers will welcome Le Moyne to the NEC with the first of two bouts on Monday, Jan. 15, at home.
