The first year setter tallied 38 assists and 16 digs in two matches at the BC Invitational

SOMERSET, N.J. – After opening the season at the formidable Boston College Invitational, Sacred Heart University first year setter Gaby Zovko was recognized as the first NEC/Molten Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week of the 2023 season.
The Pioneers opened the season with challenging matches against Michigan of the Big Ten and Boston College of the ACC. SHU contended in both bouts but ultimately suffered two setbacks to begin the year.
Zovko racked up a team-best 38 assists (6.33/set) and 16 digs (2.67/set), second on the team, in her first two collegiate contests. She added six kills, four aces and three blocks to her stat line.
On Saturday afternoon, Zovko kicked off her SHU career with 20 assists and five digs against the Wolverines. The Bedford, Mass., native then recorded her first collegiate double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs against the hosting Eagles.
Sacred Heart opens the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. when it welcomes Fairfield to the Pitt Center as a part of the Sacred Heart/Fairfield Invitational.
