FAIRFIELD, Conn. – On Wednesday evening at the Pitt Center, the Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to challenging non-conference foe UAlbany.

How It Happened:
The Great Danes opened the match on a 4-1 run before SHU quickly answered by taking a 6-4 advantage with a 5-0 surge. UAlbany fought back into the lead, building its advantage to as much as 10, 23-13, late in the stanza. The Pioneers began to chip away at the deficit, drawing it to five, 24-19, but the visitors held on to take the first 25-19.
Sacred Heart took the early lead in the second set, going up 5-1 after six points. The Great Danes began to chip away again, but the Pioneers remained up four, 17-13, through 30 points. SHU was still up four, 23-19, when UAlbany began another rally, tying the score at 23-all with a 4-0 run. The Pios recorded a pair of set points before the end of the frame, but the Great Danes came out on top with a 27-25 win to go up 2-0.
The lead swung back and forth to start the third set, with the teams tied at 7-7 through 14 points. A 7-2 run by the visitors gave them a 14-9 advantage, followed by a 6-3 surge that put UAlbany ahead eight, 20-12. The Pios rallied to cut the deficit to five, 24-19, but the visitors held on to take the contest 3-0.
Individually, Camryn Luginbuhl and Gaby Zovko led the SHU offense with 11 kills and 20 assists, respectively. Luginbuhl also added two solo blocks to her stat line. On defense, Jasmine Rogers and Sloane Rooney both finished with double-digit digs, with 18 and 10, respectively. Rooney's 10 digs marked a new career high for the sophomore setter.
