How It Happened:
The two teams started the opening set by trading the lead, with SHU holding an 8-7 advantage through the first 15 points. Hofstra took the lead back with a 6-1 run to go up by four, 13-9. The teams began trading points again until the visitors' 3-0 push put them up six, 17-11. The Pioneers were quick to rally, going on a 6-2 run to draw the deficit to 19-17. Another SHU push near the end of the set cut the margin two, 23-21, but the Pride won the following two points to secure a 25-21 victory.
Sacred Heart opened the second by winning three of the first four points, taking a 5-4 lead through nine. Hofstra gained the momentum in the frame by stringing together a 10-1 run to go up 14-6. The Pios began to chip away at the deficit with a 5-0 run to cut the score to 19-15. Unfortunately for the home team, it would not get closer than four points for the remainder of the set, as Hofstra went on to win 25-20.
For the third set in a row, the two teams came out of the gates trading points, as the score was tied at 7-all early on. The Pride put together the first substantial run, winning the following five points to go up 12-7. A 6-1 push a little later put Hofstra up 18-9, which was more than enough cushion for them to secure a 25-16 win.
