Zovko Named NEC Rookie of the Week Again

The first year setter racked up a pair of double-doubles this week

SOMERSET, N.J. – For the second straight week, Sacred Heart University women's volleyball first year setter Gaby Zovko was named the NEC/Molten Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pioneers continued their challenging opening stretch to the season, battling Fairfield, UMBC and Hofstra. SHU tallied strong stretches in all three bouts but unfortunately dropped close contests to the Stags, Retrievers and Pride
Zovko repeats as NEC Rookie of the Week after averaging 6.33 assists and 2.89 digs per set for the Pioneers this week. The first year's week featured a pair of double-doubles, with the first coming against Fairfield on Thursday when she tallied 25 assists and 10 digs. In the following match against UMBC, the Bedford, Mass., native added 21 assists, five kills and three aces. Zovko capped the week with another double-double with a season-best 13 digs and 11 assists against Hofstra on Tuesday. She ranks fifth in the NEC with 6.33 assists per set this season.
SHU returns to the road for its next contest against in-state foe UConn on Thursday, Sept. 7, to kick off the Yale Invitational. The Pioneers will play the Huskies in Storrs, Conn., at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
