SHU has won 12 MAAC weekly awards this season
EDISON, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team added two more Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors to their tally on Tuesday, as Camryn Luginbuhl was named the Jersey Mike's MAAC Player of the Week and Gaby Zovko the Setter of the Week.
The Pioneers played a pair of difficult MAAC matches at Canisius and Niagara. SHU dropped a five-set thriller against the Golden Griffins on Saturday before suffering a hard-fought four-set loss to the Purple Eagles on Sunday.
As a team, SHU has won 12 weekly awards from the MAAC. Luginbuhl is now a three-time Player of the Week and Zovko is a three-time Setter of the Week.
Luginbuhl, a senior outside hitter, led the MAAC with 46 kills (5.11/set) in two matches last weekend. The Tolland, Conn., native was also second on the team with 28 digs (3.11/set) with two straight 20-kill, 10-dig double-doubles. She started the weekend with 26 kills and 15 digs against Canisius before racking up 20 kills and 13 digs against Niagara.
Zovko was third in the MAAC with 88 assists (9.78/set), adding 17 kills (1.89/set) and 17 digs (1.89/set) as an all-around player. In her first match of the weekend, the sophomore setter tallied a 50-assist, 10-kill, 10-dig triple-double against Canisius, becoming the seventh DI player to tally at least three triple-doubles. Zovko then recorded 38 assists, seven kills and seven digs in four sets against Niagara.
The Pioneers are home for the first time this season on Saturday, Oct. 19, to play Rider at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame High School.
