Women’s Volleyball Opens Renovated Pitt with Win over Marist

SHU topped the Red Foxes in Four
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team played the first match in the renovated William H Pitt Center on Saturday evening, topping Marist in four sets.
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Camryn Luginbuhl, as she set a new four-set program record with 59 total attacks, finishing with a match-high 19 kills.
Miliani Villarreal and Allison Murray commanded things on the defensive side of the court, tallying 25 and 17 digs, respectively. Gaby Zovko registered 29 assists, five blocks, four kills and four aces in an all-around effort.

How It Happened:
After a deadlocked start to the first set, the Pioneers pulled ahead with a 5-1 surge to go up 19-14. SHU remained ahead, sealing a 25-18 victory with a set-ending 5-0 run. Luginbuhl capped the set with a kill, her third of the first.
The second set sat tied at 8-8 before the Red Foxes used an 8-1 surge to go up 16-9. A quick 7-0 spurt knotted the score at 16-16, with Luginbuhl tallying three kills in the process. SHU ended the set on a 9-4 run to take a 25-20 win.
After suffering a close 25-22 loss in the third set, SHU bounced back in the third. The Pioneers stormed ahead in the frame, going up 14-8 with a 7-0 run. The Pios held on with a 25-20 victory, sealing a four-set victory in the first match at the renovated Pitt.
