Pio student-athletes raise money for members and families
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sometimes we run to win. Sometimes we run to be together. Sometimes we run for a cause.
The Pioneers ran as one very large group to win for Team Impact on Oct. 20 on the track at Campus Field. Over 300 student-athletes registered for the Team Impact 5K and raised $2,091 for the members and families of the group that has become a cherished member of the SHU family.
"Being able to organize an event on campus such as the Team Impact 5K and receive such incredible support from our athletics director, administrators, staff, coaches and student-athletes is what makes Sacred Heart and our Team Impact partnership so special," said Jack Pinho, SHU's Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Support Services. "All proceeds go directly to families that are matched with Team Impact as well as creating more matches for families to connect with collegiate teams across the country. When you are able to impact a child's life and their family, there is nothing more rewarding."
Sacred Heart's efforts in the 5K event placed it among the top 10 in the country relative to money raised and registered participants out of over 150 institutions involved.
