Women’s Golf in Eighth at Great Danes Invite

The Pioneers are five strokes away from being in the top three

DELMAR, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team opened the Great Danes Invitational in eighth place after the first round on Saturday at the Normanside Country Club in Delmar, N.Y.

The Pioneers are in eighth place after the first round today with a combined score of 308 (+27). SHU ended the day in a tightly-packed field, as it sits just five strokes out of being in the top five. Lehigh leads the field with a combined score of 294 (+14). 

Jessie Burch leads the way for Sacred Heart in T7th, finishing the opening round with a four-over 74. The junior carded three birdies over the final 10 holes of the day. 

Maya Robilio continued the torrid start of her senior season with a first-round 75 (+5). The San Clemente, Calif., native is tied for 14th place, carding three birdies on the round. 

Maite Cantu is the third Pioneer on the leaderboard in a tie for 33rd. The first year opened her tournament with an eight-over round of 78. 

SHU's final two competitors today were Nahia Paulerena and Jensie Nicholas in T47th and T58th, respectively. Paulerena heads into tomorrow with a score of 81 (+11), while Nicholas owns a score of 86 (+16).

The second round of the Great Danes Invitational will take place tomorrow morning.
