Pioneers Wrap Up Gompei Invite in Second Place

Multiple Pios secure top three finishes
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Sacred Heart women's swim team wrapped up the three day Gompei Invite hosted by WPI on Sunday collecting a handful of SHU all-time top times and top three finishes.
Saturday's events consisted of the 1650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 IM, 200 butterfly, 50 breaststroke, and the 400 freestyle relay. The top 30 swimmers from prelims advanced to finals.
Charlotte Kaduson kicked things off Sunday night for the Pioneers in the 1650 freestyle and finished in second with a time of 17:35.44.
Emma Davis competed in the A final in the 100 freestyle placing tenth in a time of 54.08.
Meghan Hammarlund paced the Pioneers in the 200 backstroke securing a personal record, second all-time at SHU, and second place in a time of 2:05.26. Julia Fanning and Kaitlyn Schwartz went neck-and-neck securing seventh and eighth, respectfully.
Daniella Palamaro dropped time from her morning swim in the 100 IM finishing ninth in 1:01.73.
Sophia Velleco led SHU in the 200-butterfly finishing second and is now second all-time at SHU with a time of 2:05.38. Melanie Sanchez was right behind her in third with a time of 2:09.17. Emma Chambers finished ninth in 2:13.01.
Rosemery Nieto wrapped up individual events in second in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29.80.
The 400-freestyle relay consisting of Velleco, Maeve English, Brooke LaBarge, and Davis secured third place in 3:33.02. Velleco's split off the start now puts her third all-time at SHU with a time of 52.06.
