FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Behind a combined 13 goals from
Maggie Araneo,
Emma Kittredge, and
Shae Insinga, the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season, defeating the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University by a final score of 14-12 Wednesday evening at Campus Field in non-conference play.
Araneo reigned in a team and season-high five goals, while Kittredge and Insinga scored four goals a piece. The Pioneers' final tally of the game came from
Emi Waldron in the second period.
For the second game in a row,
Lisa Martin recorded 10+ saves in net, while
Maci Black forced a team-high three caused turnovers. With her 13 saves in net, Martin reached a major milestone as the junior keeper recorded her 200th career save.

How it Happened:
The Pioneers held the early 4-2 advantage over the Bobcats at the end of the first quarter before doubling their lead, 8-4, heading into the halftime break.
Araneo led SHU in the first half, scoring three goals, while Kittredge and Insinga scored four goals combined. Waldon's tally at 2:34 gave the Pioneers a three-goal cushion, 9-6.
Quinnipiac threatened the Pioneers in the third as the Bobcats outscored the hosts by a 5-2 margin to trim the deficit to within one, 10-9. SHU's two goals in the third came from Kittredge and Araneo at 7:52 and 3:47, respectively.
The fourth quarter saw the Pioneers and Bobcats battle through two ties before a pair of goals from Insinga, including a man-up, and a goal from Kittredge sealed the home victory for SHU.

The Pioneers open Northeast Conference (NEC) play on March 9th against league newcomer Le Moyne College. Game time is set for noon.
