The sophomore tallied the Pios' first no-hitter since 2022

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Behind the first career no-hitter from sophomore pitcher Sam Kowalski, the Sacred Heart University softball team rolled to a 5-0 victory over St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon at the Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla.

Of Note:
Sacred Heart opened the game's scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Carly Koltko. With Jenna Mowad on third following a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a flyout, Koltko drove SHU's third baseman home to give the Pios the early lead.

The Pioneers hung two more runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second to expand the lead to 3-0. With two on after a lead-off error and a single, Charlene Davis tallied the first of her two RBIs today with a sac fly to right to plate Victoria LoPinto. Cierra Bender added an RBI groundout in the next at-bat to score Nicole Henke.

SHU added runs on RBI singles from LoPinto in the third and Davis in the sixth to build its advantage to 5-0.

With the way Kowalski was throwing today, a five-run cushion was more than she needed. The sophomore hurler became the first SHU pitcher not to allow a hit since Sarah Lawton's no-no on March 18, 2022. Kowalski, now 2-2 on the year, tied a season-high by striking out eight batters and limited the Bonnies to just five baserunners.
