Scholar-Athlete Tradition Continues
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The baseball and softball teams had excellent seasons that included 69 home runs combined. The balls were flying while Sacred Heart University varsity student-athletes were knocking it out of the park in the classroom.
The overall GPA for Pios this academic year was 3.45, which included at least 170 with 4.0 marks and 578 making the dean's list (3.6). SHU Athletics comprises 33 varsity teams and 1,106 athletes.
"Sacred Heart University takes great pride in the accomplishments of its student-athletes on and off the field, and these numbers show our Pios are producing in the classroom and in the community," said Kelsey Armstrong, SHU's Associate AD for Student-Athlete Support Services. "The bar continues to rise with a tradition of outstanding scholar-athletes helping teams win championships."
Speaking of balls flying far, the SHU golf teams achieved the highest GPAs among the varsity squads. Both the men's and women's teams posted 3.74 marks for the year. The women's golf team also captured a third straight Northeast Conference Championship.
SHU athletes also completed over six thousand hours of community service in 2023-24. Those hours included work with Team IMPACT, helping a church with a food drive and reading to public school children, to name a few.
