
Softball Places Four on All-NEC Teams

Davis and Bender both make First Team

SOMERSET, N.J. – After making the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship for the first time since 2021, the Sacred Heart University softball team had four players named to the 2024 All-NEC Teams.
The Pioneers are having a fantastic 2024 campaign, taking a 26-27 record into the NEC tournament, the team's highest win total since 2019. The Pioneers head into the NEC Championship as the No. 3 seed with a 16-8 league record after winning seven of eight conference series.
Leading the way on the All-NEC teams for the Pios are First Teamers Charlene Davis and Cierra Bender, who also made the All-Rookie Team. The duo of Emily Heath and Carly Koltko both claimed spots on the Second Team. All four of SHU's All-NEC representatives make the list for the first time in their careers.
Davis claimed the First Team catcher spot after setting new career highs as a sophomore. The San Jacinto, Calif., native owns a .277 batting average with eight runs, 11 RBIs, six doubles and one home run, all of which are career highs. Defensively, she owns a .988 fielding percentage with 230 putouts.
Bender, a First Team second baseman, ranked third on the Pioneers with a .301 average. She also tallied 25 RBIs, 23 runs, 11 doubles, two triples and two home runs in her first collegiate season. She finished the year with a .973 fielding percentage with 84 putouts and 58 assists.
Heath makes her first All-NEC appearance after posting her second consecutive stellar season. The Coventry, R.I., native owns a 2.56 ERA with 150 strikeouts over 150.1 innings. She is 12-11 on the year with a 7-3 mark against NEC teams.
Rounding out SHU's honorees was Koltko at Second Team first base. The junior from Redondo Beach, Calif., paces the Pioneers with a .318 batting average and 29 RBIs. She is also second on the team with seven home runs. At first, Koltko owns a .983 field percentage with 229 putouts.
The Pioneers kick off the NEC Championship on Thursday, May 9, with a 3 p.m. bout against second-seeded LIU.
