
Pios Complete Season Opener at Stony Brook

Pios earn four top 25 finishes during morning race
STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Two standout first year's aided the Sacred Heart University men's cross country team in its first meet of the season, pushing the Pios to a fifth place finish at the Stony Brook Season Opener on Saturday morning.
Demetri Franzese and Harjaap Singh had a hand in promoting the Pios to their fifth-place finish, scoring in third and fifth for SHU while finishing in 24th and 27th overall. Sophomore harrier Michael Mason took the top finish for the Pios during the morning race, finishing in 17th place with a career-best time of 20:15.5 in the 6k race, while Matthew Vene took a top 25 finish by placing 23rd overall. Owen Delisle was the final scorer for the Pios, grabbing a fourth-place team finish with a time of 20:54.7, which was good for 25th overall.
The Pios also had strong showings among the rest of its harriers with Anthony Esposito and Patrick Devine finishing in sixth and seventh place among the Red & White, taking top 35 finishes out of their first collegiate races.
