Pios earn four top 25 finishes during morning race

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Two standout first year's aided the Sacred Heart University men's cross country team in its first meet of the season, pushing the Pios to a fifth place finish at the Stony Brook Season Opener on Saturday morning.

Demetri Franzese and Harjaap Singh had a hand in promoting the Pios to their fifth-place finish, scoring in third and fifth for SHU while finishing in 24^th and 27^th overall. Sophomore harrier Michael Mason took the top finish for the Pios during the morning race, finishing in 17^th place with a career-best time of 20:15.5 in the 6k race, while Matthew Vene took a top 25 finish by placing 23^rd overall. Owen Delisle was the final scorer for the Pios, grabbing a fourth-place team finish with a time of 20:54.7, which was good for 25^th overall.

The Pios also had strong showings among the rest of its harriers with Anthony Esposito and Patrick Devine finishing in sixth and seventh place among the Red & White, taking top 35 finishes out of their first collegiate races.
