Pios grab five top 25 finishes in maiden race of the season
STONY BROOK, N.Y. — A quintuplet a top 25 finishes propelled the Sacred Heart University women's cross-country team to a third-place team finish at the Stony Brook Season Opener on Saturday morning. The Pios took third place with a score of 101 points, behind fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member Quinnipiac and hosts Stony Brook.
The Pios grabbed third place overall with a trio of finishes from Grace's, including senior and sophomore standouts Grace Sousa and Grace DelGiorno. Sousa took the top spot for the Pios with a time of 15:04, which was good for 17th overall, while DelGiorno took home a time of 15:08 to take 18th overall. Junior Grace Miller just missed out on a top 20 finish, taking 21st overall.
Jessica Pigott and Kelly Parker were the remaining scoring harriers for the Pios with both of them finishing just behind Miller in 22nd and 23rd overall. Junior Adriana Franzese took a top 25 finish, while Anna King grabbed a seventh-place team finish, narrowly missing out on the top 25.
