Women's Volleyball Falls in Opener against Bryant

Luginbuhl tallied her 1,000th kill against the Bulldogs
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team took the first set in its opening match of the Black Knights Invitational against Bryant on Friday but suffered a 3-1 loss to the Bulldogs at Army's Gillis Field House.
In the match, senior Camryn Luginbuhl crossed the 1,000-kill plateau in her career, hitting 1,006 with 12 kills against the Bulldogs. With 250-plus kills in each of her first three seasons, Luginbuhl paces the Pios this season with 115 (3.97/set).
Luginbuhl (12 kills, 11 digs) was one of three Pioneers to record a double-double in the match, joining Gaby Zovko (24 assists, 11 kills) and Miliani Villarreal (19 digs, 13 assists). Allison Murray led the Pios with 13 kills.

How It Happened:
The opening set was as evenly played as they come, as the biggest lead by either team was two points. Bryant held a one-point advantage late at 25-24 before SHU strung together a 4-1 run to seal a 28-26 win. Allison Murray sparked the run with two kills and an ace.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the Bulldogs bounced back to take the next three sets. The second frame finished 25-16, before a hard-fought 25-23 third. The two teams traded runs in the third until a 6-0 surge by Bryant gave it a convincing 22-16 advantage. SHU was ready with a 7-2 answer to draw the margin to one, 24-23, before the Bulldogs sealed the win with the final point.
The fourth set was another close affair, with SHU leading 19-17 late. Bryant was again ready with a rally, ending the frame on an extended 8-2 run to take the frame 25-21 and the match 3-1.
