Women’s Volleyball Collects Another MAAC Award

Villarreal earned third straight Libero of the Week Award
EDISON, N.J. – The awards keep on rolling in for the Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team Tuesday, as Miliani Villarreal Jersey Mike's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Libero of the Week.
The Pioneers continued their challenging non-conference slate this past weekend, playing three matches at the Black Knights Invitational, hosted by Army. SHU went four against both Bryant and Army, winning the first set in both matches. SHU also played Hofstra.
As a team, SHU has won seven MAAC weekly awards already this season. Villarreal has been the most decorated Pioneer, winning Libero of the Week honors three times and Rookie of the Week twice.
Villarreal led the Pioneers with 45 digs (4.09/set) over its three matches at the Black Knights Invitational. She was also second on the team with 21 assists (1.91/set). The Murrieta, Calif., native highlighted her week with a a 19-dig, 13-assist double-double against Bryant in the opener on Friday. She added 12 digs against Hofstra on Saturday and 14 against Army on Sunday.
SHU heads to Palmetto State next, kicking off a tournament at Charleston Southern with a 10 a.m. bout against Norfolk State on Friday, Sept. 20.
