Red team comes out on top
MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's swim and dive team hosted their Annual Pioneer Pentathlon at McCann Natatorium on Saturday.
Changing things up from previous years, the Pioneer a squad divided in half to create the Red and White teams. The Red team secured the win, 614.5 - 550.0.
Each swimmer competed in five individual events and team captains selected participants for the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays.
Sophia Velleco won all five of her events including the 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle. The sophomore was crowned champion of the meet for the second consecutive year.
Senior Rosemery Nieto secured two victories – one in the 100 breaststroke and one in the 200 IM
In diving competition, senior Lola Barrett won the 1M.

The Pioneers open their season on Thursday, Oct. 3, as they travel to University of Connecticut for a double dual with Southern Connecticut State University at 6 p.m.
