SHU's first season in the MAAC will feature 52 games
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With just over a month left before beginning her 37th season as a part of the Sacred Heart University softball coaching staff, Head Coach Pam London debuted the team's schedule for the 2025 campaign.Â
The Pioneers have 52 games on the docket for the upcoming spring season, 19 at home at Pioneer Park and 33 on the road. In 2025, SHU will play its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate, which features 26 games in the new league.
Like last season, the Pios will begin the year in the Tar Heel State, participating in five games at Gardner-Webb's Red and Black Classic. The campaign starts on Friday, Feb. 14, with a 12:30 p.m. clash against Robert Morris. SHU will also play the host Bulldogs and MAAC foe Iona at the event.Â
The Pios remain in North Carolina for tilts against Elon and UNC Greensboro before heading to Virginia for a twin bill against Radford on Tuesday, Mar. 4.Â
Sacred Heart's first competition in the Northeast will come at the Yale-hosted Bulldog Invitational on Friday, Mar. 7. SHU will meet Maine, Central Connecticut State and Yale over five contests in New Haven.Â
Following the Bulldog Invite, SHU welcomes Brown on Saturday, Mar. 15, and FDU on Thursday, Mar. 20, for back-to-back home doubleheaders at Pioneer Park. The Pios open the home slate at 12:30 p.m. against the visiting Bears.Â
The Pioneers' first MAAC series comes on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 22-23, at Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. The doubleheader on Saturday is slated to start at noon.Â
SHU will then begin a season-long seven-game homestand, which will be highlighted by the MAAC series against Niagara (Mar. 29) and Saint Peter's (Apr. 1).Â
In the middle of their league slate, the Pioneers will play Kentucky and Boston University in a pair of games at BU on Saturday, Apr. 12. Both the Wildcats and Terriers were nationally ranked last season and made the NCAA Tournament.Â
After returning from Boston, SHU closes out the year with MAAC bouts. The Pios' home slate will come to a close on Sunday, Apr. 27, at noon against Quinnipiac, while its regular-season finale will be at Canisius on Saturday, May 3, at 12 p.m.Â
The 2025 MAAC Championship is slated to take place between Wednesday-Saturday, May 7-10. The event features six teams and will be hosted by the regular-season champion.
