Two boats finished with record performances
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University women's rowing team turned in a strong performance at the Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend, racing two boats on Saturday and setting up for another on Sunday.
The Pioneers' Club 8+ crew made program history, finishing 20th overall and requalifying for the first time in team history. The lineup featured coxswain Mia Bottone guiding a powerful crew of stroke Caitlyn Bergman, Olivia Chasse, Doria Lukasik-Drescher, Giovanna Ponte, Samantha Keith, Lily Holt, Kaela Borelli, and bow seat Susan Munley.
In the Club 4+ event, Sacred Heart placed 18th with a lineup of coxswain Sophia Bittar, stroke Rose Kelly, Kameron Siiss in the three seat, Gabrielle Gottschall in two, and Olivia Caione in bow. The group delivered a composed and competitive performance against a deep field.
Head coach Lucas Wilhelm praised both boats' efforts and emphasized how the weekend's results reflect the team's upward momentum.
"I'm proud of both boats and I think it is a great slingshot for the year we want," Wilhelm said. "Our team motto is 'eyes up,' and we're aiming up at the MAAC Championships. This was a great stop along the way to our eventual goals."
The Pioneers will return to action next weekend at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia.
