Rothberg’s Career Round Leads Men’s Golf at Wykagyl Collegiate

The Pioneers rank seventh as a team
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Senior linksman Mike Rothberg leads the 60-person field at the Wykagyl Collegiate, as the Sacred Heart University men's golf team is in seventh place as a team at the Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y.
The Pioneers own a team score of 597 (+21) after rounds of 302 and 295, ranking seventh. SHU is three strokes shy of fifth-place Iona (+18). Rhode Island leads the field at -13, while LIU is a close second at -10.
Rothberg is cruising through the first two rounds, sitting three strokes ahead of the next closest golfer. The Fairfield native opened the day with a one-under 71 before exploding for a seven-under 65 in round two for a combined score of 136 (-8). In the best round of his collegiate career, Rothberg had six birdies and two eagles in round two.
Ronan Mooney sits next for SHU on the scoreboard in T16th. The first year owns a combined score of 145 (+1) following rounds of 72 and 73. Mooney was at his best in the opening nine holes of round one, hitting five birdies on five-straight holes (5-9).
Pablo Lacayo, Sho Suzuki and Alex Turlik rounded out the Pios' golfers at the event. Lacayo is tied for 44th at +12, Suzuki is in 55th at +16 and Turlik is 58th at +24.
The Pioneers' final round of the fall is slated to kick off tomorrow morning.
