FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Behind a two-goal game from
Ray Fust, the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team ended 2025 on a high note with a 5-2 home win over Robert Morris in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) action Tuesday afternoon at the Martire Family Arena.
Records:
SHU: 8-7-2, 5-4-2 AHA
Robert Morris: 4-11-2, 4-4-1 AHA
How It Happened:
The Pioneers struck first with a blueline goal from sophomore
Aiden VanRooyan, taking a 1-0 lead at 11:26. After poking the puck out of the corner, Fust found VanRooyan at the right dot for a one-timer to the top-right corner.
Sacred Heart added to its lead 5:21 later, with Fust finding a goal of his own. The senior forward from Switzerland set up in front of the crease, tipping a
Noah Van Vliet shot from the blue line up and over the moving goalie for his second score of the season.
Fust opened the scoring in the second period with his first multi-goal game as a Pioneer, making it 3-0 SHU at 8:59 in the second. After an RMU player tried to dump the puck from behind his net, Fust kept it in and fired a rocket from the high slot that sailed over the goaltender's glove.
The Pioneers added a fourth goal in a hectic power play later in the second. After a rebound score by
Reid Pabich was waved off following a lengthy review,
Felix Trudeau left no doubt with his career-best 16th goal of the season. At 12:30, Trudeau sniped the top-right corner with a missile from the right circle to make it 4-0 SHU.
After two RMU goals in the third,
John Driscoll iced the contest with an empty-net goal in the final 30 seconds. Driscoll's goal is his second of the season and fourth as a Pioneer.
Teagan Kendrick was outstanding in his fifth collegiate start, picking up his second win behind 23 saves.
