RESULTS
NEW YORK – It was a strong opening day for the Sacred Heart women's track and field team at the MAAC Indoor Championships at The Armory. The Pioneers sit in first place with 55.5 points after Day 1 with a majority of the finals coming on Sunday.
The highlight of the day came in the high jump where the Pioneers had the top three finishers.
Magdalena Brogioli won with a leap of 1.74 meters.
Lauryn Piccirelli (1.71m) was second and
Kaitlyn Caraco (1.68m) placed third.
SHU also had a medalist in the weight throw as
Suzan Adekunle (16.22m) finished second.
The distance medley relay team of
Kathleen Cronin,
Ava Srinivasan,
Keegan Pepin and
Grace DelGiorno earned the Pioneers points by placing fourth with a time of 12:24.43.
Brogioli also was strong on the track. She qualified for Sunday's final in both the 60-meter high hurdles and the 60 dash. Her time of 8.78 was the third fastest in the hurdles, and she posted the fifth fastest time (7.67) in the 60 dash.
The Pioneers were very strong in the hurdles as joining Brogioli in the final will be
Madeline Archangelo (8.74, second fastest time),
Sierra Thompson (8.95, sixth fastest) and
Ariyana Jackson (8.89, seventh fastest).
Thompson also reached the final in the 200 with a time of 25.16 (eighth fastest).
Nyahingiva Musa will join Brogioli in the 60 dash final by posting the eighth fastest time (7.74).
Sunday's finals get under way at 5 p.m.
