Women’s Golf Sits in Seventh in First Tournament of Spring

Cantu paces the team in 11th place at Texas State Invitational

BLANCO, Texas – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2024-25 schedule by sitting in seventh place after the first two rounds of the Texas State Invitational, hosted at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas. 

The Pioneers own a team score of 626 (320-306) through the first 36 holes, which is 50 over par. SHU is four strokes shy of tying Wichita State (+46) for sixth place while trailing leaders Houston Christian and Texas State (+29) by 21 strokes. 

Maite Cantu leads the way for the Pioneers with a combined score of eight-over 152 (77-75) to sit in 11th. The Mexico City native tallied three birdies on the day, two in the first round and one in the second. 

Maya Robilio and Jessie Burch are next on the leaderboard for the Pios in 25th and T26th, respectively. Robilio carded a 36-hole score of 156 (+12), trimming six strokes off a round-one 81 with a 75 in round two. Burch went 79 (+7) and 78 (+6) for a score of 157 (+13). 

Nahia Paulerena and Jensie Nicholas rounded out SHU's competitors today in 45th and T57th, respectively. Paulerena ended the day with a score of 163 (+19), while Nicholas tallied a mark of 167 (+23). 

The Pioneers hit the course again tomorrow morning for the final 18 holes of the Texas State Invitational.
