Women’s Golf Ties for Sixth at Texas State Invitational

Four Pioneers finish in the top 36

BLANCO, Texas – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team climbed one spot on the final leaderboard at the Texas State Invitational to finish in a tie for sixth at the two-day event hosted at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas. 

The Pioneers finished with a team score of 944 (320-306-318), tying Lamar at +80. Texas State posted the round of the tournament, a six-over 294, to claim the win with a final score of 899 (+35). 

Maite Cantu remained as the top Pioneer at the early-week event, finishing with a 16-over 232 to tie for 20th. The first year from Mexico City carded birdies in every round of the tournament, with two more this afternoon. 

Maya Robilio placed next for SHU in a tie for 29th at 236 (+20). She tied Cantu with five birdies over 36 holes, including back-to-back at holes four and five today. 

Nahia Paulerena and Jessie Burch placed in a tie for 36th, with Paulerena seeing a nine-spot climb in today's round. Both golfers carded combined scores of 239 (+23). Paulerena rose up the rankings with a final-round 76 (+4), recording five birdies. 

Jensie Nicholas was the final SHU golfer at the event, placing in a tie for 55th with a final score of 252 (+36).  

Sacred Heart hits the links again on Wednesday, Mar. 5, for the two-day SHU Spring Break Women's Invite, hosted at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Orange Park, Fla.
