Softball Falls to Elon and UNC Greensboro on Sunday

Bibbo and Leckrone both tallied two hits against Elon
ELON, N.C. – The Sacred Heart University softball team suffered a pair of losses on Sunday afternoon, falling to Elon and UNC Greensboro in two games at UNCG's Softball Stadium.

The Phoenix got the better of the Pioneers to start this morning's first game, scoring three runs in the first and fourth innings and two in the second to go ahead 8-0.
SHU started to heat up in the bottom of the fourth, putting three on the scoreboard to cut the margin to 8-3. Elle Leckrone started the frame with a single before Savannah Moore reached on an error. Sydney Hess loaded the bases on a dropped third strike, setting the stage for an RBI single from Morgan Teodosio. Olivia Bibbo stepped up next with a single down the line to bring in two more.
Elon scored another run in the fifth, meaning SHU needed to overcome a 9-3 deficit. The Pioneers started to rally again in the bottom of the seventh. The Pioneers started the inning with a walk and a single, as Jess Brown loaded the bases following the innings first out. Elle Leckrone drove the first run home with a single to center.
The Pios got within three runs in the next at-bat when Carly Koltko sent a ball through the right side to make it a 9-6 game. SHU loaded the bases again with one up, but Elon worked out of the jam to conserve the 9-6 victory.
Game 2: UNCG 8, SHU 0 (5 inn.)

All the action of the night cap came in the bottom of the first inning as the Spartans hung eight runs on the scoreboard. UNCG tallied two home runs to highlight the frame.
Despite the rough first inning, Sam Kowalski settled in and did not allow another run for the rest of the game. She struck out five batters over 4.0 innings.
As a team, Sacred Heart spread five hits over 5.0 innings. Five different Pioneers tallied a hit in the game.
