Softball Rolls to 9-1 Win over Niagara Sunday

The Pioneers tallied their first three-game sweep in the MAAC
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University softball team completed its first three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) sweep on Sunday with a 9-1 win in six innings at Pioneer Park. Morgan Teodosio iced the game for SHU with a walk-off triple in the sixth, as she finished with four RBIs.

The Pioneers built off yesterday's high-scoring nightcap with three runs in the top of the first this morning. Second in the order, Jess Brown tallied the game's first hit with a single before stealing second. Elle Leckrone then drove her home with a double to right center. Back-to-back walks then loaded the bases for Morgan Teodosio, who plated two with a single to give SHU a 3-0 advantage.
Scoreless second and third innings preceded a three-run fourth for the Pioneers. A single, error and walk loaded the bases again for Sacred Heart. Charlene Davis answered the call with a bases-clearing double to right center to make it a 6-0 Pios lead.
Niagara broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with a rare right field homer from Selah Moyer to cut the deficit to 6-1.
With two on and two out, SHU eyed its second straight walk-off win in the sixth inning. Carly Koltko started the scoring rally with an RBI single up the middle. The game ended on a Teodosio triple down the left field line that plated Alexa Barbera and Morgan Fitzgerald to give the Pioneers a 9-1 victory.
Sam Kowalski bettered her opening win against Niagara yesterday with a strong showing today. The junior struck out seven over 6.0 innings, allowing just run. With the victory, Kowalski improved to 6-7 on the season.

Sacred Heart is back at Pioneer Park on Tuesday, Apr. 1, for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Saint Peter's.
