GRASONVILLE, Md. – Jessie Burch claimed co-medalist honors on Sunday to lead the Sacred Heart University women's golf team to a third-place finish at the JEL Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay, hosted this weekend at the Prospect Bay Golf Club in Grasonville, Md.
The Pioneers finished the 54-hole event with a combined score of 945 (324-314-307), tying Bucknell for the best third round of the tournament. SHU's to-par score of +81 finished seven strokes shy of tying winners LIU and Bucknell at +74.
Burch finished tied for the best third-round score with a two-over 73 on Sunday to sit in a three-way tie for first place. She tallied a birdie on the 54th hole of the tournament to earn the hardware. Burch ended the event with a score of 230 (81-76-73), 14 strokes over par. The junior tallied her first career win.
Maya Robilio was the next-highest Pioneer finisher in fifth. Following back-to-back rounds of 79 (+7) yesterday, the senior trimmed three strokes on Sunday with a 76 (+4). Robilio ended the tournament with a combined score of 234 (+18).
Maite Cantu,
Nahia Paulerena and
Jensie Nicholas all finished clustered together in T19th, T19th and T24th, respectively. Cantu and Paulerena posted identical scores of 245 (+29), while Nicholas carded a 248 (+32).
SHU's final competitor was
Lauren Ogrodowicz in 34th with a final score of 262 (+46).
The Pioneers hit the links again on Saturday, Apr. 5, for the opening round of the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, N.J.
